Colorado Women’s Day Seeking Nominations for

Shattered Glass Award

Unsung Heroine Award

Know a woman anywhere in Colorado who deserves recognition for her volunteer efforts, or an innovative woman who is a model for other women striving to make their dreams a reality in politics, government, or the public or private sector?  Nominate them for the “Unsung Heroine” award or the “Shattered Glass” award. The winners and nominees will be recognized at the 6th annual Colorado Women’s Day celebration on May 7, 2021 at Baldoria on the Water in Lakewood, CO. Applications, are due no later than noon, Friday, March 19, 2021 to Joni Inman, Joni Inman Consulting

The event is normally held in March close to the globally celebrated International Women's Day.  However, in order to allow greater distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines, the event has been moved this year to Friday, May 7. “We will remain ready to take some or all components of Women’s Day ‘virtual’ if necessary,” said event founder Deborah Deal-Blackwell, APR. “However, we are hoping that by moving it – just for this year – to the Friday before Mother’s Day, we will be buying some time for more people to get one of the available vaccines so that attendees can enjoy getting together.

The Colorado Women’s Day celebration is an official International Women’s Day event and will be found on the international website at: sponsors for the event include the City of Golden, the Colorado Women’s Alliance and IX Power Clean Water.

Recognition of Jefferson County’s “Unsung Heroine” and the winner of the “Shattered Glass” award are just two of the elements of this popular annual event which complements the global International Women’s Day celebration every year. Other activities for the day include breakout sessions, Women’s Day Marketplace, door prizes, “swag” bags and more! The luncheon’s keynote speaker has already accepted and will be announced soon!

Businesses either owned or operated by a woman, or featuring a product or service for women, also have the opportunity to participate in Colorado Women’s Day in a variety of ways. They can insert an item representing their business in the swag bags, procure a table in the “Marketplace” to sell or market their goods or services, or for maximum exposure become a sponsor of the event.

This is the sixth year that International Women’s Day has been celebrated in Colorado. In many countries around the world, this is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political. International Women's Day first emerged at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe and the first time it was observed nationally in the U.S. was in 1909. The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. The United Nations’ theme for their women’s initiative is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”  The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day event is “Let’s All Choose to Challenge.” #ChooseToChallenge
